About Xinyang & Yongyang Athletic Association

Singapore Xinyang Athletic Association ( 新加坡新洋体育会) was founded in 2007 by a group of friends who share the same passion for Dragon and Lion Dance. A disciplined, dedicated and reputable association, Xinyang Athletic Association started out as members of Nanyang Junior College Pugilistics Society and then Nanyang Junior College Alumni Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe before Xinyang’s establishment.

Xinyang’s name in Chinese is derived from the first character of Singapore in Chinese ( Xin, 新) and the second character for Nanyang in Chinese ( Yang,洋 ). Xinyang’s members are mostly made up of university graduates and undergraduates pursuing their passion for this traditional Chinese art.

In 2012, Xinyang established Singapore Yongyang Athletic Association (新加坡勇洋体育会) as a subsidiary troupe to further expand our repertoire of skills.

Xinyang Athletic Association is a non-profit association specialising mainly in lion and dragon dancing.

Our objectives are:

  • To allow members to pursue their interest in the Chinese cultural art of dragon and lion dancing

  • To carry on a Chinese tradition and pass it on to the future generations

  • To promote and spread the traditional Chinese cultural art of lion and dragon dancing

All the earnings from Xinyang’s performances go into expenses such as rental of association premises, equipment, welfare of members etc. As such, Xinyang depends heavily on corporate and individual sponsors to help fund equipment and attire and at the same time, help to preserve and continue this Chinese traditional art form.

Over the years, Xinyang has covered many corporate and social events and have appeared on newspapers, local magazines, TV variety shows and local movies, making us a reputable and respected body in the local dragon and lion dancing circle.
